i should say that "The Wilco Book" version of 'hummingbird' is the one i'm always raving about. though the 'A Ghost Is Born' version isn't bad either.

the show made me appreciate 'A Ghost Is Born' a lot more. i still think its their worst album, but thats like calling the Mona Lisa, Da Vinci's worst painting. its still very good. i just could do without the long guitar solos and feedback. all their stuff sounded GREAT live... one of the best live bands i think i've ever seen. my head was killing me last night, so i spent half the night sitting down with my head in my hands, and then the other half staring at the back of some idiots head.

in the whole auditorium, i only saw three crooked hat idiots, and one was seated right in front of me. luckily he spent the entire show seated, text messaging with his 40,000 watt backlit cell phone. i only saw five worthless, babbling whores the entire night also. three of them were seated in my row. they played grabass with two losers who talked the entire time. way to waste 150 bucks.

we ate at Tucano's before we went and we ate A LOT. something like 10 pieces of meat. then after the show, my head still throbbing, we decided to run to the car to avoid the crowd, that didnt help with the headache. and then we get to the car and the garage is nearly empty. where did everyone park? at marilyn manson it took 50000 years to get out of the garage. weird.

the 'A Ghost is Born' version of 'Hummingbird' sounds EXACTLY like Jellyfish. i swear its lifted from Andy Sturmer's songbook.

then crooked hat guy and back-of-his-head-isnt-a-window, who both look like they are at least 19 years old, probably closer to 22, spent the night flirting with two girls who looked about 14. if the girls look 14, then they are probably 11 or 12. gross.

overall, the show was just great. The Handsome Family were EXCELLENT! very funny, very entertaining. i was kinda sad that not a single track from 'AM' was covered, but what can you do... i knew the odds of hearing 'Via Chicago' were nil... but its my favorite Wilco track, so i had to hope. 'Dash 7' would have been nice too. i'm not totally sold on 'Spiders (kidsmoke)' if it were 3 minutes shorter, i'd be interested.

oh well time for homework/God Of War (the best game i've played all year).

also...

i figured out the 'crooked hat' trend. guys tilt their hats to the side so the bill won't be in the way when giving other men fellatio. i'd imagine a hat poking you in the belly would be pretty distracting. as would hitting your hat on a belly over and over.

I made it to this show as well last night and I agree with you that they are one of the best live bands. It made me enjoy the new album more as well.

can you confirm/deny any of the songs i listed in the setlist that i didnt know what they were? or werent certain about anyway?

did you stalk them backstage this time?

yeah, i believe your set list looks pretty accurate.

unfortunately i did not stalk them backstage because my knowledge of the underbelly of the kiva is severly lacking. i figured i'd end up getting caught by security or just plain lost. maybe next time.

for future stalking reference: i have worked on some shows at the Kiva, and the back entrance actually faced MLK. there is a double tree hotel, or something like that RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from the back stage entrance. its easy peasy, and all the busses park right on MLK.
