WTF?
They've got this and a German language track called 'German Studies', both from the new record... I thought Fotini put one of her greek cds in my playlist at first when this came on.

and what's up with imeem? Does ANYONE just surf around there listening to stuff? I really only use it to share music via the little player. I have just shy of 19,000 total plays in my account! I don't promote it anywhere but here, so ... weird. How is it that we have a full blown blog with a bi-weekly podcast, that's over a year old at that, and it's got less than a tenth the plays that whatever crap I put on imeem does?
Jon... we need to dig for gold via imeem ASAP.

We recorded and released a demo podcast... a THIRD podcast... it actually turned out better than i thought. we were not really confident on the pacing and format, but we got the recording nailed down and halfway through it sounds great. we also didnt have a need to censor ourselves, so its a lot more entertaining than supercandid... not that i'm hating on supercandid or anything.
as soon as we get another show in the can, i'll post a link... unless you want to hear it, just comment and i'll send you the link. its really rough as far as content... it involves mainstream movies though. It's 'The Stupid Podcast for Jerks'... a nod to such an obscure movie, even we haven't digested the pop culture hipness of it.

I FINALLY was able to record a second/third episode of 'The Songs You Skipped Podcast'. It only took like a month. I hope the audio is better.
This week we've got songs from Lemonheads, Get Up Kids, Letters to Cleo, Screaming Trees and Toadies.
You can get it here...
Or on iTunes.
I was rushing like hell to get through it before Garageband crashed... and I made it! But you can tell I'm in a hurry. It's packed full of mumbling and heavy breathing. and nose whistling.
If you have any suggestions for themes for an episode, let me know.
ALRIGHT. BEDTIME.

Yesterday I watched 'Wristcutters: A Love Story'. it reminded me A LOT of 'Dead Like Me'. good movie... did i already mention all this?
I'm still trying to figure out what genre both WALS and DLM belong to... supernatural? it's not really sci-fi, not really horror or romance or comedy... all of them?
Today I watched 'Shakes the Clown'. It had like 50 famous people in it, before they were famous. It's the only starring role I've seen Tom Kenny in (unless Spongebob counts), it also had Adam Sandler, Kathy Griffin and that fat Paul comedian guy who i can never remember his name. I actually wish it had more Bobcat Goldthwait.
***
Did the podcast with Jon today, got lunch, played some Rock Band and Sonic and the Stupid Rings (that theme music DOES SUCKS HARDZ_), went to dinner with my old man, and now i'm BEAT and have work in like 8 hours. Time for bed! I'll upload the podcast tomorrow.

we went to 'I Scream for Ice Cream' tonight... this little ice cream place in town... its awesome! its all packed with kids stuff and the owner is really nice and funny. great place. jon and nicole were trying to convince David to go see 'Teeth' with them tonight. he didnt know anything about it, and that was the best part. ultimately, he decided against it, so i called him and spoiled the plot on the way home. (its about a chick with teeth in her vajay... its a horror movie... should she get raped on purpose to take out rapists? or not? i dunno!)
the main character is a christian girl, so david said we should do a podcast about it. he said we could get a dentist to come on, and get Justin to talk about the moral decisions in the film... at this point i thought he said 'molars in the film' and i thought that was really funny... moral makes more sense... but molars makes sense too! So justin, if you want to rap about vaginal molars, hit me up.

i played a whole lot of 'FlatOut' today on the 360. GREAT GAME. after falling in love with the trailers for the first game several years ago, and then falling out of love with it once i played the demo (floating cars much?), I'm thrilled to see that they finally nailed it and made a really fun game. with great gaming comes great difficulty though... this game is HARD. especially the ragdoll minigames. you have to find zen just to get a bronze medal in any event. i kick ass at the destruction derbys, but thats about it. i cant get the last few bomb runs, or the time trial-ish events down. its getting TOUGH. but its very addictive. the last time i was this in love with a driving game was Burnout 3.
it's been a while. usually i get tired of drifting around, but this game just keeps pushing you...
$20 at best buy... if you own a 360, you could do A LOT worse. even Forza 2 wasnt this much fun.

The new podcast is official. It's got its own feed and everything. Should be up on iTunes for subscription anytime soooooo.... yeah. I'll post the iTunes link when it comes up, as I designed it for iPods, with pictures and chapter breaks. I forgot to throw in some page links, but eff it... 4 of the 5 bands I played have broken up, so their sites probably suck anyway.
It's pretty rough, I'd say. I still hate my voice. But I really relaxed and let myself ramble. I want it to have all the stuff I like about podcasts, which is a lot of natural background information. The hosts just riffing about whatever. I love that, so I let myself do it without overanalyzing myself or trying to stay too focused. So expect lots of random facts about the bands, and a lot of me going 'uhhhhh... ummmm...'.
Also, I repeated a lot of stuff... on purpose. I hate when I miss one word on a podcast, and I'm lost and have to rewind. So, you'll hear the title and artist before and after each song.
The theme this week is One Hit Wonders of the 1990's... It's not the hits though, its other songs on the hit album. I'm focusing on deep album tracks.
The first link is just a quicktime feed. Its got the pictures and everything, but its streaming so no chapter breaks. It'll just play in your browser.
And the next is imeem!
And the ugly website... Spoilarz!
***
Also, we were listening to 'The Blend' on XM at work today... The host Larry London was talking during a break, simply stating that Billy Joel's wife is releasing a cookbook soon... Then he said 'So leave that tender meat alone.'... He said it totally seriously and with a very dry tone.
He didn't say the name of the song. Or who it was.
I just started laughing. WTF? Leave your meat alone? I kept laughing as he played 'Leave A Tender Moment' by Bob Williams.
It was a kinda clever pun, but man.... what a thing to hear at 5am... I wish I had a recording of him saying that... he was just so stoic about it... like hearing your grandpa say it while having his heart broken.

Yesterday we watched 'Cars' and finished off 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Season Six. I was so tired I kept falling asleep...
Curb had a fantastic finale... sad season, but that was the perfect ending... season seven, if there is one, is going to be... interesting.
'Cars'... i'm a bit torn. on the one hand, i didnt think it was very good as far as a film goes. it was very 'in the moment', full of jokes that are already stale, and catering to hillbilly NASCAR culture and awful music. BUT its easily the best looking pixar film i've ever seen. even above Ratatouille. its gorgeous.
***
i recorded a podcast this morning. i've been wanting to do a music show for some time, so i finally just did it. came out pretty good i guess, but some of the mixing is a bit rough, i still have no voice for radio, and the name i landed on, which i researched, is already taken. i searched for it on itunes, but not on google... so i'm going to have to come up with something else.
i recorded it in AAC, with chapter breaks, and in high quality and it still only clocked in at 20mb... which is great.
as soon as imeem gets its crap together, i'll post it.
any ideas for a name?

Yesterday, Fotini talked me into going to Hobby Lobby. While we were there, a few messages were broadcast over the PA relaying information to different departments. It seems that they are using Christmas themed codes when delivering these messages, ie. 'Dept. H as in Holiday, you have a call on line two.'
What struck me was this message 'Dept. N as in Knoll, you have a pick up at the dock.' I'm assuming she meant 'N as in NOEL', but she said KNOLL. Like the grassy knoll, or maybe she meant a nickname for MLB superstar Nolan Ryan.
I'm always surprised as what words people pronounce funny, or just plain cannot read because they've never come across them. It happens a lot at work. I should start writing them down.
I'm a fairly good reader, but a horrible speller... which never made much sense to me, but is something I've often thought about. I can usually pronounce words correctly, using regional information and whatnot, knowing where to put the emphasis or whatever, but not always. I should keep track of what words I eff up constantly. I'm always keeping tabs on Fotini and her 'closent (closet)' and 'brefast (breakfast)' pronunciations...

Last night was the christmas party, and it was pretty fun. I was BEAT by the time we even got there though. I ate and got my energy up, but only for a bit. sheeeeesh. I was also MAD PISSED, but was trying not to be. Some peoples children.
Ree/Rea gave me an iDog. It's a little robot dog that you plug your iPod into, and it has a speaker and lights up and moves to your music. Sounds pretty cool. I should do an unboxing video! I gave Kyle a 360 controller that I was able to find at a fantastic price several weeks ago. Thanks Amazon!

we spent all day yesterday cleaning the house and you know what? You'd never ever know it. That's how gotdamned messy our house is. We shaved off many layers of garbage everywhere, and there's still crap all over the place. It's downright depressing.

Robert and Ree/Rea ended up with both of our white elephant gifts last night. I don't think anyone swapped. They received, from us, a clock that runs on a battery, but the arms are too heavy to be turned for very long, so it always reads around 8:40 or so, an unopened copy of 'Stripes' on DVD, the Samurai Jack premiere movie DVD, a 'Reality Check' CD, some mixtape I made over two years ago (that actually has some good songs on it, including the song that Fotini and I got engaged to), several books I got in college like 'Women of the Middle Ages' and a very used copy of 'Understanding the Times' (complete with some old tests!), a rubber duck, a collapsing zebra, a 4D puzzle, a Bugs Bunny T-Shirt (brand new), some other crap that we were able to liberate from our home.
I ended up with a box of crap from the Kelley's, but it was all very used crap. ie. kitchen utensils, that had not been washed since they were last used, Andes mints, etc. I left it on the hood of their car when we left. Fotini got the other white elephant gift from them in the form of 5 (full) bottles of Samuel Adams.
Tamara had the real winner of the evening (as given by Robert) with a set of those Saint candles you can get at the grocery store. She got Saint Rodney and Saint Percival or something.
Matt had provided an 'Adventures in Odessey' CD set, which was pretty cool, but now that I think of it, Robyn stole it from Fotini.

I miss doing the podcast. Today we have to do a bunch of junk, but I really feel like sitting on my ass and falling asleep to movies all day long. Frustrating. Well, Jon has a great point... keep the podcasts SHORT. Anything over 50mb on Libsyn has to be posted via FTP... so I'm now trying to load it for the THIRD time via FTP. It's taking a long time, which is good because its moving a large file, but then when i get to the file, only the title has transferred, not the audio... SO I deleted everything AGAIN. I'm hoping this works. For whatever reason, I have a feeling it might. Still, i dont like the headache, and its freaking LATE.

i forgot to mention... while camping, we slept for the first night IN the Element. i put up the privacy curtain, and that worked awesomely (right). put down the seats to form one huge matress... only, a matress littered with hinges and buckles. it makes a 'large padded lounge area', NOT a bed. it didnt work too well, as it wasnt really flat. the second night, in the tent, was much better.

Last night,
numinorean sat in for
dj_jonny_flash during the podcast recording. It went pretty well! If it works out, I think he'll make a great guest host when Jon is in Iraq. This was sort of a test recording. It was a little stiffer without Jon yelling and his weekly rant, but it was nice having a different feel with an eloquent speaker on board. Thats no knock on Jon, its just different. It was also weird hosting in a sense... i've always felt that Jon is the host of the podcast... he can roll with the comebacks much faster, so for me as the straight man hosting... it was weird... but it worked. i'll probably post it early, but not right now!
oh and there was some more audio clipping... which is driving me nuts... i cant wait to upgrade to the imac. i think i've decided to wait until Leopard lanches... its gorgeous.
oh, and i might as well mention that we 'launched' the new website. its still rough, and being built, but its basically working. blogspot allows us to embed items with ease, something that libsyn WOULD NOT let us do, and even Livejournal had its limitations with. plus, we got our affiliate links up and adsense... if you're an Amazon shopper, and you happen to click the link on our site and then buy whatever you want, we get a kickback. not a big deal, but it'll go towards buying us a new mike eventually!

I just watched 'The Passion of the Christ'. This may sound odd, but it wasn't as bloody as I expected it to be. I mean, it is bloody, very bloody, but the way everyone was talking, I was expecting to lose my lunch type of thing... 'Day of the Dead' is still the bloodiest movie I can think of. I guess Evil Dead is up there, but it was so over the top.
I liked it. I'll probably watch it again, at least the first hour, of which I mostly slept through.
I really should be keeping track of the films I saw this year. There is a meme going on to watch '100 films in a year' or something to that effect. I think I can do it pretty easily this year, which is saying something as I generally only go to the theater 2-3 times a year. This year has been a major exception and I blame Jon 100% for it. The podcast is the #2 culprit with Gameznflix coming in at #3.
Speaking of which, we watched 'The Day After Tomorrow' today. It sucked.

DAMN YOU SUPERCANDID PODCAST!
So I thought I had the intro music edited and in the can... i have a great track that came out this week, then i remembered a good album comes out next week and wanted to use a track off that, then I saw a CD sitting on the desk that I had meant to use a few weeks ago, THEN Jon sent me a really good one.
sheesh.
i think i'm going to try and go with Jon's suggestion, and use my original track for the outro.

Any idea how to promote a podcast? Our listenership grows slightly with each 'cast, but not by much, and we're still getting ZERO feedback, which is a little frustrating. Only because I want the show to be good, and we have no idea if it's good or bad. I haven't heard a single comment from anyone that doesn't know us. Ted has actually given us a lot of constructive feedback, all good things (both positive and negative feedback) but he knows us.

The more I think about that Aqua Teen movie, the more I realize how much they've revealed. It would have been nice to show all the scenes that are alluded to in the title sequence of the actual show (fighting in space and whatnot) and in the credits of the show (living on the moon as old men). They do show a lot though with Lincoln and the pyramid. I won't go into spoilers, but I'm sure the fanboys will add quite a lot to their wiki entry very soon.

I'm right about halfway through 'Cries Unheard'. Mary Bell is just about to leave Red Bank. I'm guessing she goes to an actual prison next. She must be about 14 or so at this time.

Tonight we're going to hit up some dual Settlers of Catan. Should be fun. We need a night off. Really! We've been booked solid for a couple weeks now. I've still only barely scratched 'Shivering Isles'. Though I did drag 'Puzzle Quest' with me everywhere the past few days. Great game.
Oh and I tried the 'Monster Madness' demo this morning. Pretty fun, but it's TOUGH. I'd rather have more enemies and have them die quickly than just a few that won't die. That doesn't work for this type of game very well. It's hard to see where you're going/shooting. And the demo is glitchy! The Chief walked into a hole in the wall, and when I followed I was trapped in a darkness that I couldn't escape, while still being attacked from every angle. I died.

We recorded TWO podcasts yesterday. One that I posted last night, and another to post next friday. We're going to try and release them weekly. We'll see how it goes. We also did them both in one take each. The other podcasts we've recorded 2-3 times until we got it 'right'. It was pretty fun. I still can't think of a way to promote it though.

Alright, Jon came over early today and we knocked out Episode Three of the
supercandid Podcast...
http://www.supercandid.libsyn.com
It was fun and we had time for a crappy round of 'The Bible Game' in which the anal raping of Sodom and Gomorrah was reenacted on my character... then we hit up two rounds of Worms.
***
I also had time to see '300' today! Great film...! I've love to see more like it. we need a God of War movie made by these guys. i kept imaging Kratos going off on some giant in the background. again, great film. you've got to see it.
Then we played some Catan.

We watched 'Time Changer' tonight in preparation for Episode 4 of the SuperCandid podcast. I wanted to get it done so I could give it Jon on friday. i'm not going to talk about it yet, but to say that it wasn't what i expected... and the chick from 'Gears of War' is in it.
Don't click Jon!

It's a Rich Christiano film... This makes at least the fourth one of his films that SOUNDS interesting... I've yet to see his others, though I've heard of all of his films before.
***
Played some Oblivion tonight. I can't find the damn focus gems! AHHHH!
i've been tired.

The SuperCandid Podcast Episode Two is up! As always, we were pressed for time (cough*jon*cough) so we went to press with our second run through. We tackle Frank Peretti's 'Hangman's Curse' this week... with musics from Stephen the Levite and House of Heroes.

and a great unreleased Wilco song that I've been digging for the past couple months:
Did anyone listen to the leak last week?

Man... this is addictive...
and how about this guitar solo... (around the 1:55 mark) EDIT... haha... i reread this post, and noticed that putting this sentence between the two songs was a bit vauge, so i clicked forward in the Fine China song just to see where 1:55 ended up, and its during an awesome solo! so both songs have very striking solos at the 1:55 point... haha... i love my brain and its limitations. i also just noticed that 'In the Dark' is exactly one minute longer than 'Dont Say Nothing'... to the second!)
I've been wanting something like this for the internet for a long time...
***
We're recording The SuperCandid Podcast Episode Two tomorrow! Our film of choice? 'Hangman's Curse'... looking forward to hearing Jon's opinion of the film (although I can already guess). It'll be nice when we start reviewing GOOD films. i suffered through this one 2.5 times... stay tuned!
