I'm sure everyone has heard it by now, but the new Weezer single... it's actually good! I'm as shocked as you are.

The lyrics aren't completely awful!

The melody is fantastic!

The composition is interesting!

It almost kinda sounds like old Weezer. It sounds like what Old Weezer would probably sounds like at this point in their career, had they survived.

I'm stunned.

The new Scarlett Johansen song isn't completely awful either... wowzers. I wouldn't buy it, but it's not awful. not awful. and shes engaged to ryan reynolds. i thought he was still with alanis.

FlatOut for the 360 is GREAT. Its like Burnouts Hillbilly cousin. it looks good, handles pretty well and the levels are destructible... as are the drivers. I didn't even touch the ragdoll minigames and it had me going for over an hour. so fun at a budget price. and they even nail the Nitro better than Burnout... when you speed up, you actually go faster than your opponents! on Burnout, the screen just blurs and all the other cars still stay in the same position relative to your position.

still... i do love me some Burnout... but FlatOut has really come a long way since the first game.

i made another DVD... this time i compiled all the PlayValueHD podcasts. they look GREAT on the tv, i guess thats the HD part... and its like one long documentary about gaming! i love it! i hate Dan though. i hope hes playing some idiotasshole character. hes got feathered hair, bad hornrims, a popped collar and a members only jacket. tre douche!

Well shucks. My top ten albums of the year are starting to look like every other list.

I'm REALLY surprised that everyone dug 'Neon Bible' by Arcade Fire so much. I never really got into it. It was forgettable, but here it is at the top of everyones list.

On the other hand, I really dug 'Sound of Silver' by LCD Soundsystem, and thought everyone else had forgot about it... but there it is as well, at the top of EVERYONES list.

I also figured Spoon would land higher on everyones list. At least their on everyones list.

Radiohead was a no brainer. I think most publications knocked it down a couple notches just for the sake of cred, but it's still there in spades.

Jens Lekman was a surprise. Pitchfork mentioned him, Stereogum... I'm thinking Magnet and Paste as well, but I could be wrong.

The National's 'The Boxer' was the real underdog. No one cared all year (myself included), but it's sitting pretty.

SPIN gave top honors to Against Me!. I'm shocked. *cough* They really love that fine line of hanging on to the aging indierock crowd, while gaining teenagers at the same time. That's why their magazine sucks almost allllll the time.

I'll put together a list soon... I know my #1 for sure, and most of the rest. I have a couple albums that I haven't seen elsewhere (oddly, especially a reissue, when SPIN did a whole side column on reissues and didn't mention it).

Speaking of new reissues... The Rivers Cuomo Demo Record.

It's a mishmash of just weird ol' Rivers stuff that most weezer fans have heard in some form over the years, and some thrown away weezer tracks.

The quality is bad. The lyrics are bad. The guy can write a melody though. Here's an example:



the quality sucks... it even cuts out at one point, but i dig the 'Planet Caravan' guitar lick. and the melody was stuck in my head alllllll day.
